I have been teaching at the Bilingual European School (BES) in Milan, Italy since September 2009. I am the school’s ICT Coordinator and ICT Teacher. This year (2013-13), like last year, I meet weekly with the classroom teachers in order to develop lessons that make meaningful connections to their POI.
In the upper primary, years 3-5, I have been working these connections happen n a more integrated role. The two hour weekly lessons are co-taught with the classroom teachers in order to let the students see that ICT is not something that is separate to their normal classwork but that it is a tool they can use for anything they are working on.
In the Middle School I work closely with all of the teachers to integrate ICT into their lessons as much as possible. I have the possibility to teach each class on a rotating and as needs basis for two hours each week.
Before I worked at BES I taught at The Bilingual School of Monza from September 2007 until July 2009. I held several different roles at the school: English Language PYP Classroom Teacher; ICT Coordinator and Physical Education Teacher. I was able to use my diverse background to allow me to be successful while teaching these subjects. I also worked as a substitute teacher for a year and a half at The American School of Milan.
During my professional development at Kutztown University, I was able to student teach in both elementary and secondary schools. I Student Taught Art at Hamburg Area Elementary Schools and at Antietam Junior/Senior High School. I spent my Professional Semester assisting the Art Teacher at Exeter Junior High School. These experiences allowed me to become comfortable with teaching students at all levels.
